HC stays order on Civic Election

The High Court stayed the orders of Gajuwaka court which annulled the election Lanka Latha as the councilor of the 12th ward Gajuwaka municipality. Lanka Latha was elected councilor in March 2000. P.Rajeswari of Telugu Desam challenged her election on the grounds that Latha had more than two children and was involved in irregularities.

The petition filed, the Gajuwaka civil judge set side the election of Latha and announced Rajeswari as the councilor. Basing on the order, Rajeswari filed petitions in the municipality to swear her in as the new councilor and she was supported by the TDP Councillors. Meanwhile, L.Latha filed a petition in the High Court challenging the orders of the Gajuwaka court.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Devinder Gupta and M Narayana Reddy suspended the Gajuwaka court order and sent directions to the municipal authorities to continue Latha as the councilor.
