GajuwakaInfo.com - Exercise on Grater Visakha begins

Municipal authorities have launched an exercise on transfer of finances and records of Gajuwaka Municipality and 32 adjoining gram panchayats after issuance of relevant GO on the formation of Grater Visakha Municipal Corporation. Gajuwaka Municipality was abolished by a GO issued by the Department of Municipal administration and Urban Development. Consequent upon issuance of the GO, the GVMC was constituted with immediate effect with the merger of Gajuwaka Municipality and 32 Gram panchayats.

Consequently, the number of wards in Municipal Corporation of Visakhapatnam increased to more than 100. According to an official the figure will go up after completion of the exercise. The District Treasury Officer has issued instructions to stop all types of transactions with regard to the erstwhile Gajuwaka Municipality and gram panchayats. Under the Greater Visakha Project, the Corporation would get additional revenue of Rs.60 crores from the erstwhile Gajuwaka Municipality.
